Practical Issues for Women in Ministry

Mixed Ministry: Working Together as Brothers and Sisters in an Oversexed Society by Sue Edwards, Kelley Matthews, Henry Rogers. This book offers practical help for men and women working well together in various minsitry contexts.

Organic Mentoring by Sue Edwards and Barbara Neumann. A helpful resource for understanding how to mentor younger women.

The Church Planting Wife by Christine Hoover. This book deals with the ups and downs of church planting ministry.

Expectations and Burnout: Women Surviving the Great Commission by Sue Eenigenburg & Robyn Bliss. This book is based on reserarch by Sue Eenigenburg on the expectations women place on themselves and this connection with burnout. Robyn Biss adds real life stories that flesh out some of the principles.

Looming Transitions: Starting and Finishing Well in Cross Cultural Service by Amy Young. This book is extremely practical and helps people think through the practical and often neglected emotional side of transitions.

Lean In by Sheryl Sandberg. Focused on women in the workplace but still addresses relevant issues such as work/life balance and advocacy.

Malestrom: Manhood Swept into the Currents by a Changing World by Carolyn Custis James. Further unpacks what it means to forge a Blessed Alliance between men and women and explores what it means to be male in the Kingdom.

Velvet Ashes-More than a blog, this website is an excellent resource for book recommendations, photography and various opportunities to conenct virtually with women around the world. There is something here for everyone. You can follow them on Facebook and Instagram as well.

A Life Overseas-the missions conversation This blog is written by a group of writers and has a well organized library of previous posts on everything from home assignment to missions theory to practical tips on surviving your first year.

Thrive Ministry This website has an online magazine, annual retreats for North American women and other resources.


Azmera Retreats This organization holds retreats in various locations for global workers and others living cross culturally several times a year. Scholarships are available.

Thrive Ministry This organization holds 2 retreats every year open to women sent from North America for $125. They have an annual home assignment retreat in Colorado and an overseas retreat that moves every year.

Velvet Ashes This online retreat is available for women to participate in on their own or as a group. A great option if you or your team can't travel to another location.
